What can you do at the gym?
Fitness centers offer activities and equipment for people of all abilities and fitness levels. There's something for everyone, so you're sure to find a great way to stay fit. Some common equipment and activities found at fitness centers include:
- Machines such as treadmills, the elliptical, and stair climbers
- Weights in varying sizes for strength training
- Personal training
- Fitness classes incorporating many fun and challenging activities (see below for examples)
More than just lifting weights
Many people think fitness centers are only about lifting weights or running on the treadmill, but fitness centers offer other fun programs—some are especially designed for seniors. No matter how fit you currently are, there's an exercise program or activity that can help you reach your fitness goals.
Activities you may find at a fitness center that are especially great for seniors include:
- Yoga
- Tai chi or Qi Gong
- Zumba
- Water aerobics
- Chair aerobics
- Walking programs
